Composer in Residence
New York-based composer Lisa Bielawa is in residence for three years beginning in October 2006. BMOP was one of six orchestras nation-wide selected for an extended Music Alive residency, a program of Meet the Composer and the American Symphony Orchestra League.
This residency will result in two major works for orchestra - a double concerto for violinists Colin Jacobsen and Carla Kihlstedt for the 2007-08 season and a Concerto for Orchestra for the 2008-09 season - and numerous smaller solo works entitled "Synopses," written expressly for individual BMOP musicians. These short solo works will each be written literally 'in residence' - one piece per residency visit. At the end of the three years, a full-length CD of Lisa's orchestral works will be commercially released.
As Composer in Residence, Lisa will host BMOP’s pre-concert talks, curate the Club Concert series in the Moonshine Room at Club Café, and mentor young composers at Boston Arts Academy, Boston's only public school for the performing arts. Drawing from her role with the MATA festival, Lisa will organize a young composers contest and concert for BMOP’s 2007-'08 season.
