Composer in Residence
Lisa Bielawa was in residence with BMOP for three years beginning in October 2006. BMOP was one of six orchestras nation-wide selected for an extended Music Alive residency, a program of Meet the Composer and the American Symphony Orchestra League.
This residency resulted in two major works for orchestra - a double concerto for violinists Colin Jacobsen and Carla Kihlstedt in the 2007-08 season and In medias res, a concerto for orchestra in the 2008-09 season - and numerous smaller solo works entitled "Synopses," written expressly for individual BMOP musicians. These short solo works were each written literally 'in residence' - one piece per residency visit. At the end of the three years, a double CD set of Lisa's orchestral works, entitled In medias res, was commercially released on BMOP/sound.
As Composer in Residence, Lisa hosted BMOP’s pre-concert talks, curated the Club Concert series in the Moonshine Room at Club Café, and mentored young composers at Boston Arts Academy, Boston's only public school for the performing arts.
